How To Install A Garden Wall

Carrie Castillo

Gardens around your home are beautiful, whether they have flowers, greenery, or vegetable plants in them. Take your garden up just a notch and add some extra beauty and interest to them by installing a brick wall around them. This is a simple task that can make your garden look much more beautiful. See below for instructions on how to do this.

What You'll Need:

  • Brick pavers (amount depends on the length/width/height of your garden)
  • Paver sand
  • Rubber mallet
  • Shovels
  • Wheelbarrow
  • Level
  • Tamper

  1. First, decide where you want the brick pavers to go. You'll need to figure out how many pavers you'll need, so once you have the area marked, you can figure out how high the wall will be. You can find brick pavers at your local hardware or landscaping store.
  2. Next, use a shovel to dig out the area. You need to find level ground, so don't dig down too far, you just need to dig down until you are level all the way across. If you have a slope to your yard, you may need a lot of pavers on one end, while only needing two layers on the other end.
  3. Once the area is level, use the tamper to pound the ground so it is completely level. Then add the fine paver sand and spread it evenly on the ground below where the bricks will be laid. Place your first brick where you want it, then use the rubber mallet to tamp it gently into place. Use the level to be sure it is set properly level.
  4. Place your second brick in the same manner as the first brick, continuously checking to be sure it is level with the one placed before it.
  5. Continue placing all of your bricks, until you have the entire first row of bricks laid.
  6. Begin placing the second row of bricks, but now you will stagger them so the joint of the two bricks on the bottom row will be the center of the brick on the top row. Continue working in this pattern until you have all of your bricks laid.
  7. When finished, you can use smaller cap bricks for the top of the garden wall.
  8. Gently fill in the back of the wall using dirt from your garden, then add plants as needed to finish off.

Adding a garden wall around your home will help add curb appeal and beauty to your home and to your garden. For more information, contact local professionals like American Pressure Cleaning & Sealing.
